Recognition of Native Title Representative Bodies

The Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Linda Burney MP, has invited the Kimberley Land Council (KLC), North Queensland Land Council (NQLC) and Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) to apply for further terms as the native title representative bodies for their regions. A map of representative body regions is below. Native title representative bodies help people to make native title claims and agreements. KLC, NQLC and YMAC are currently the native title representative bodies for their regions. Their current terms expire on 30 June 2023.

People with native title interests in one or more of the regions covered by these organisations, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in those regions can make a submission about the relevant organisation to inform the Minister’s decision.  

Sending in a submission

Submissions are due by 5.00 pm AEST on 10 March 2023.

They can be made via email to or via post to:

When sending in your submission, we ask that you provide a first name, surname and contact details, however anonymous submissions or those using a pseudonym will also be accepted.

The Agency is coordinating submissions on behalf of the Minister.

We will not publish any submissions made. Any personal information provided to us will only be used by the Agency for the purposes of this review. For the same purpose, all submissions made will be disclosed to the relevant organisation (KLC, NQLC, or YMAC), who will be given an opportunity to comment, and may also be provided to other Commonwealth agencies with an interest in this review. Aside from this, we will not provide information collected from you to anybody else outside of the Agency, unless you have given us permission, or the law requires us to do so.
